In this book, Noah Mangwarara shares on his journey in public speaking, coming from a shy background with great fear of standing before an audience to a fearless speaker, captivating audiences of difference sizes and composition. Noah believes that the fear of public speaking can be conquered if one give time to mastering the art. Through the use of examples from great speakers, each point is driven home with expertise. Through mastery of public speaking, the audience can be fascinated and moved to do great things. When the principles shared in the book are effectively applied, the resultant effect is that of the audience assuming that the speaker was born speaking. The author however argues that there is no one born holding a microphone.
Public speaking is feared by many people to the extent that it has been said, for many people, given an option between giving a eulogy at a funeral or being in the coffin, they would rather be in the coffin. A story is told of how during the first century of the Christian Faith, Emperor Nero in Rome killed Christians by throwing them in the lion’s den. When one Christian fellow was thrown into the lion’s den, he quickly went to each lion’s ear and whispered something. Interestingly, all the lions then looked at this man without attacking him, to the utmost shock of those who had thrown him. When the Christian guy was asked as to what he told the lions that they chose not to eat him, he responded; “I told each of the lions that the one who was going to attack me first would have to give a public speech.” That saved his day as none of the lions wanted to be the first one to give a speech out of fear of public speaking. This story is on the extreme end but the truth is that many people do everything they can to avoid speaking in public, not realizing that the mastery of public speaking carry within it great opportunities that can propel one to greatness.
